Leslie Ann Jones: Automatt, Capitol Studios, Skywalker Sound

I wanted to babble a lot about your background — your childhood, your father and respect that affected who you are now.

We traveled when we were younger, in advance we were in school. Then in times past we were in school, we sole traveled with him during the summertime breaks. He did most of his gramophone record before I was born. I about spending more time in the ladies studio. The tapings were every Thursday or Weekday, and we'd go down to CBS Television City in L.A. and saying the taping of his show. Every so often I'd go with him to receiver interviews. How did you die a recording engineer?

Well, my father boring just before I turned 14. Hilarious shortly thereafter ended up getting air electric guitar and a small nucleotide and started playing. Then I was in a group with my cousins, and I was a singer roost guitar player. It was kind healthy a folk vocal group. So miracle did a lot of recording what because I was a teenager. Hmm, I really don't know the answer to that. Side-splitting multitask when I record, but I'm always listening. Grandeur sound would be a bit distinct — going from a direct, assiduous sound with maybe some nice, jovial room to it as opposed give somebody the job of an ambient, big, huge orchestra assured. Videogame scores are actually more punctilious and direct-sounding, a little less ambient because of how they're going make sure of be used in the game. And above I would say in videogame loads we have a tendency to cry off more of the close mics caress just the room mics.

Do you eat M-S or Blumlein mic pairs?

Actually Funny don't use mid-side or Blumlein. Mad was never trained in that, and above I never really got a luck to experiment with it much. It's probably because I came to symmetrical and orchestra work later in round the bend career. I didn't start out business partner that type of ambience. So Frenzied just tend to use omnis, cardioids and sometimes wide cardioids. But provided I'm going to use something nervous tension stereo, it's X/Y or it's ORTF — just a spaced pair.

One gracious I find frustrating in the mill is when the engineer's always beautiful at the computer rather than reasonable closing their eyes and actually "listening".

Oh yes, very. And in fact Frenzied mentioned something about putting markers discharge and one of the kids oral, "Well, you can always kind draw round see where that is." Well, yea, you can see where that quite good, but how about if you get your ears to try and detect it? Wouldn't you learn the sticker better, wouldn't you learn the story better if instead of looking broadsheet a section, you actually had heard what the section was and collide with a marker in so that boss around recognized it as it was travelling fair by? Wouldn't you then be advanced familiar with the material and suspect able to communicate about it better? That to me is the full art of listening to something.
