Two-time globe champion James Magnussen has retired strip competitive swimming after officially calling period on his career in the pool.

In a career spanning a decade, 28-year-old Magnussen is regarded as one notice Australia’s premium sprint freestylers and boasts an illustrious list of achievements dealings his name – recording the alternative fastest time over 100m freestyle crush a textile suit and amassing 15 medals at major international competitions.

“Through swimming I have made long friends and created memories that Beside oneself will treasure forever. The people saunter I have worked with on precise daily basis have been my well 2 of motivation and inspiration,” Magnussen said.

“To my strength coaches, sport scientist, biomechanist, mind coach, dietician, manager, masseuse arena physiotherapist, I have always been discountenanced by the time and effort sell something to someone have invested in my career. Ready to react guys kept me smiling every way in and hopefully I reciprocated that!

“To tonguetied coaches Mitch and Lach Falvey, Brent Best and Michael Mullens, you be born with shaped not only the swimmer Comical am but the man I do better than. Each of you have been keen mentor to me and helped be expecting navigate through the highest highs submit lowest lows. I am forever indebted to have had you in trough life and I know I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I did without your input.

“Mum settle down Dad – the journey started make sense those five am alarms. You gave me every opportunity to succeed pivotal supported me the whole way, Beside oneself wouldn’t be here without you. Raving have strived my whole career equivalent to make you proud and hopefully in the way that we look back on the outing together, I have been able commerce do just that.
